Why aren't we as a nation following New Zealand lead the have a Indigenous Australian Governor General/President/spoke person/national leader, as that word President doesn't sit well with me.

At a guess I would say it's Tasman rivalry.

Wouldn't this go a lot farther in healing the rift between black and white Australians and as the nations leader this person would be in a strong influential position to inspire all Australian.
